A whacky film that spoofs many genres, Top Secret! is great fun if you can connect with the scattershot approach employed by the makers of The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977) and Flying High aka Airplane! (1980).

My favourite Zucker-Abrahams comedy is The Naked Gun (1988), which struck a better laugh rate with me than their others, but a number of sequences in Top Secret! had me spitting out Weetbix crumbs: the skeet surfing number, the whole cow scene, and Peter Cushing's cameo, which just may have been filmed in reverse.

Top Secret! contains a swag of clever gags tempered by several lame ones. If nothing else, you have to admire the tenacity of the filmmaker's belief in their own material.
