The scene where a young boy has his dick
grabbed by a woman is missing. [speculation]
The scene as it appears on the Australian DVD shows two
naked children laughing and running in circles around a woman, possibly
their mother or a house servant (Sada?). At one stage the woman takes hold
of the boy's penis and holds it. The English subtitles say that he complains
"It hurts" more than once, then the scene cuts away.
---SCENE 1---
Extension of a sex scene between Sada and Ishida. She's on top of him and playing...ummm, some string instrument. (Sorry, I don't know the name!) He urges her on, and she continues. In the theatrical cut, she eventually appears to pass out. Ishida looks concerned and tries to figure out what's going on.
Ishida: Sada.... Your heart beats. You frighten me.
---SCENE 2---
Before the geisha girls "rape" another geisha girl, there's an extended shot of Sada and Ishida's faces while they're having sex. No extra dialogue.
---SCENE 3---
There's a shot in the home video edit that's (apparently) not in the theatrical edit. I believe it's the following:
Sada and Ishida are sitting outside and Sada wants sex. She gets on top of him and they do it, all while some old lady off by the side is working. The next shot in the theatrical edit is a nighttime scene of Sada and Ishida walking around. In the home video edit, a preceding nighttime shot of Sada and Ishida walking across a bridge is inserted.
---SCENE 4---
Technically, this isn't a branched scene, but in the theatrical edit, there's a scene where Sada plays with two naked children and eventually yanks on the boy's penis. I don't know if this is true for all theatrical prints, but in at least some, there's an optical zoom so that you don't see the yank. This shot is left untouched in the home video edit, although some DVDs still do a zoom or just plain cut the scene.
---SCENE 5---
A scene that was completely cut out of the home video edit. Sada and Ishida are in bed, behind a blurry screen. This shot comes before a servant (?) brings them sake.
Sada: The first time that I saw you, I fell in love with your nape of the neck. I wish for your penis to enter me. What a wonderful thing!
Ishida: You want me to enter you?
Sada: Yes! Come!
Ishida: I'm in you... It is dark... very dark... I don't anything. If, I see... Something like water that flows. One would say... blood... No... not blood. Small red insects that enter into my eyes, in my nose, with a strange odor. They penetrate my eyes. I don't see anything. This is pleasant... It is good... so soft! Yes, so soft... so good!
---SCENE 6---
Sada is choking Ishida during sex. In the home video version, the scene ends when she stops while he coughs. In the theatrical edit, the scene continues.
Ishida: Go ahead, start again.
(Sada chokes him again.)
Sada: It moves! It moves!
(Ishida coughs some more, and Sada eventually stops.)
---SCENE 7---
Sada and Ishida are having sex. (Notice a pattern here?) She's on top and distressed to discover him falling asleep. She yanks on his penis. At this point, the theatrical and home video edits differ. In the home video edit, there's a brief dialogue exchange, then we see her stare at him while he breathes heavily.
Sada: Do you suffer?
Ishida: I'll fall asleep. Look over me.
In the theatrical edit, the dialogue's different, and he briefly falls asleep while she watches over him for almost a minute.
Ishida: It is sad to be alone.
Sada: I'm with you. Sleep well.
Both versions pick up when he breathes heavily, looks at her, and says, "If I fall asleep, will you strangle me?"
---SCENE 8---
Sada awakens in the open-air auditorium (?). In the home video edit, the film cuts to her standing over Ishida in a room. In the theatrical edit, before reaching that point, there's ~1 min. of footage of her laying on the floor, then getting up and opening some doors, all the while looking desperate. No extra dialogue. |
