Watchmen version details. The theatrical version rated MA 15+ locally and R in the US runs to 161 minutes plus change. Director Zack Snyder promises two longer versions this year, the director's cut at 190 minutes, and the 205 minute Black Freighter version, which is the DC with an animated cartoon edited into the narrative, as per the graphic novel. Synder has also said that the DC will be more violent and sexually explicit. It's not clear yet whether this footage was cut for the US R rating, or it's just extended juicy material. The most excellent source of local censorship reportage Refused Classification says the anticipated MA 15+ Aussie DVD release of Barbarian Queen is sadly the cut US R version. I've seen the US unrated version on NTSC VHS. Given that this sword and g-string epic is pitched at adults, it needs all the sleaze it can get.
