| Cut Footage | The original Aussie DVD release (Warner Home Video) from suffered cuts imposed on the UK edition.
Other BBFC cuts may have been inherited as well, besides the following two cuts I confirmed by
comparing the original 1999 release with the VHS rental. I'll need to confirm that, since I
don't quite remember. But I suspect the local SE had not been released when I did the
comparison for my article in DVD Now magazine.
(a) At 1:54:47 a jump cut indicates that a second or so is missing from the fight between Bond and 006 in the antenna room. (b) At 1:57:09, during their scuffle on the lower prong of the antenna, a shot of Bond head-butting 006 was cut. There is also mention of cuts being made prior to the film's original US PG-13 theatrical release, according to IMDB and DVD Compare. IMDB lists these MPAA cuts as: (a) In the scene when 006 is shot, one originally clearly saw the impact of the bullet to the head. (b) When Xenia shoots the workers at the Severnya station, there were originally several more shots of the people being killed. (c) Xenia's death was trimmed. The shot of her choking was longer. |
| Reason | The UK version was released by MGM on DVD, cut for the UK 12 rating. This is probably the same version originally released on Australian DVD in 1999. The MPAA also made cuts prior to release to get a US PG-13 rating. |
| Uncut Releases | None yet. The Australian special edition and ultimate edition DVDs contain the standard, censored US theatrical version. |

| Comments | This is the Follywood remake of Ju-on starring Sarah Michelle Geller. The following cuts are missing from the first DVD (Roadshow) release and also the theatrical print. The local DVD runs to 98:09 PAL or 102 minutes film, which matches the theatrical running time. The US unrated DVD goes for 107 minutes. |

Note that some of these differences may not have been to get the PG-13 rating before release.
Other narrative differences also exist but these have not been listed.
(a) After Bill Pullman's Death we focus on his dead face and the eyeball on the pavement has slightly popped out looking like a white gum drop. (b) The Old senile lady when she meets Yoko (caretaker) is messing with tape and her fingers are covered in blood. (c) Ted Raimi meeting Yoko jawless in the hallway is extended and she even stretches back quite a bit to show down her throat quite a lot. (d) The Bill Pullman scene where he shows up at the house and finds Ayako's body is longer. She falls out of the closet and we stay on her for quite a while. She seems to follow him throughout the room. Her neck is making crunching noises. (e) Here is what makes the uncut uncut. The father killing his family scene. He grabs Ayako and semi strips her and grabs her by the throat and in his rage twists her head to an almost 360 and it splinters and cracks as she spits blood. The 'aaaaaaaacckkkk' sound is from her dying as her throat is distended. Toshio views the entire thing! This reveals why he is always bug eyed when on the stairwell looking down because this is where he was sitting. (f) After Bill Pullman's Death we Focus on his dead face and the eyeball on the pavement has slightly popped out looking like a white gum drop. (g) As SMG is saving her comatose hubby we see more of the family death. It looks as if he cuts the cats throat in the tub and then he slams its carcass against the tub walls. We then actually see Toshio being drowned. He even has a moment where he looks at his father before he dunks him in. Then there are jump cuts of where the father placed their corpses. These spots end up being where they congregate. Toshio is dead in his closet along with his mother in the attic. [Source: Bloody Disgusting] |

| The Grudge II (2006) | |

| Comment | The Australian theatrical and DVD releases are of the shorter version,
not the extended version released in the US on DVD (Sony). The BBFC clocks the cinema print at
102:17, while the Aussie DVD (Roadshow) has a counter time of 98:09 PAL. Note that the BBFC
also examined a version for home video that runs to 103:36 PAL, or fairly close to
the equivalent US disc running time of 107:44 NTSC. DVD Compare
does not list this release. The Grudge II was also released
in the US on DVD (Sony) in its shorter PG-13 version. Ditto Holland (Dutch FilmWorks).
Watching the cinema version, I didn't think it had been censored. Then, when I saw the uncut version on US DVD, I didn't think it had restored censorship cuts, but the details posted below convinced me otherwise. |
| Cut Footage | The following shots were identified in an entry on Movie-Censorship.
After examining the shots, I have determined that the trims were more than likely made to reduce the
impact of the film, even though they are mild, as mentioned by the German
website. The so-called directors cut, which I've seen, is in my opinion the version of choice for The Grudge II.
(a) When Bill is hit over the head by Jennifer Beals, the longer version show smoke rising from his head. (b) After Bill collapses to the floor, there's another shot of him lying under the table, and yet another shot showing his blood seeping across the floorboards. (c) When Karen takes an unscheduled swandive from the hospital roof, two additional shots in the extended version show blood spashing and blood oozing across the pavement from her head more noticably. (d) During the flashback climax, the killing of Aubrey is slightly more violent. |
| Reason | Probably cut before release to obtain a US PG-13 rating. |
| Uncut Releases | US unrated DVD (Sony). |
